ABOUT METROCKETRY

MetRocketry is an award-winning design team at Toronto Metropolitan University that designs, builds, and launches high-powered competition rockets.

MetRocketry provides a unique learning experience to its members by coupling theoretical design and computational analysis with physical testing and manufacturing on a real-world project in a collaborative team environment.

At MetRocketry, we focus on the full lifecycle of rocket development. From conceptual design to manufacturing, testing, and successful launches, we create rockets that embody innovation and engineering excellence. Our team members gain invaluable experience in:

  • Design & Computational Analysis: Utilizing advanced software to simulate flight dynamics, propulsion, and aerodynamics.

  • Manufacturing & Testing: Crafting rocket components with precision and rigor, conducting tests to ensure peak performance and safety.

  • Team Collaboration: Working in interdisciplinary teams, blending expertise in mechanical, electrical, and aerospace engineering to tackle complex challenges.

A former captain reflects on his memories with MetRocketry

“I was a member of MetRocketry for 5 years, starting as a general member in my first year of undergrad and eventually serving as a 2-year captain during my last year of undergrad and first year of graduate studies. MetRocketry was more than just an extracurricular for my resume; it was a close-knit group of friends who grew and learned together. Taking on different roles within the team allowed me to expand my skills across multiple areas—from technical and engineering skills to leadership and management.

My proudest achievement with MetRocketry was witnessing the continuous growth of its members. Over those years, I saw three generations of students start from scratch, gain experience, and rise to become team leads, project managers, and captains. It’s a testament to the team’s culture of learning, mentorship, and resilience.”
